Online gamers association sends open letter to finance minister on 28% GST

‘Indian Gamers United’, a group representing gamers from Tier II and Tier III cities, have written an open letter to the Finance Minister requesting a reduction in GST on online gaming from 28%. The group argues that high taxation will force gamers towards illegal and offshore platforms, increasing the risk. The group urges distinction between games of chance like gambling and the skill involved in gaming, stating that gaming is a significant part of the digital sector and gamers can contribute to the country. The GST Council will meet on August 2 to decide on how to implement the new tax.
